Hello again. So, you might have noticed that the site looks a little (but not too much) different now. With the great help from Jim (Levoir.dev), the website is now moved to a different host and based off of the WordPress platform. This does a couple things for us – moves us to a platform that I can integrate a new webstore that integrates will all of the business services we use, and moves us to a different hosting provider. The first part is the main driver of this change and effort. While the initial attempt at a non-Etsy webstore a year or two back with Shopify was OK, it was really expensive for what we used with all of the third-party integrations we had to pay for. WooCommerce is the new platform and while it isn’t free, it’s a little better at allowing us to only pay for what we absolutely need while integrating with everything we do and use. There are lots of little changes in the works for this site, but we had to pick a cutover some time otherwise we’d never do it if we waited for everything to be done and perfect. Welcome to the constant battle between my Autistic and ADHD sides of my brain…

Picture of patches that have "HANDLER" "SERVICE PUP and "SERVICE TOP" embroidered on them

The biggest push this week was waking up on Thursday to a notice from Etsy that my somewhat popular Service ID patch set (Service Top, Service Pup, Handler, etc) had been removed because they felt it violated their policy against selling falsified credentials. In this instance, it was violating the fake service dog credentials clause. This is one of those instances where I can’t really fight it because, yes, it can be seen as that. However, anyone with half a brain looking at that, its description, tags, and other items in my store would understand that that was not even remotely the intent or intended usage. They are for humans to wear. But.. That would be asking for rational thought and a site as big as Etsy has to err on the side of caution when implementing its policies. So, I get that, and when we use someone else’s platform to sell items, we’re at the mercy of following their rules. So, if you were wondering why those listings disappeared, that’s why.

So, that brings us to today, where this site is now live. In the coming days, the webstore will be opened up and links directing people to Etsy will be changed to direct them here. We’re not going away from Etsy, since it drives a lot of our business still and that’s how a lot of our customers find our products.

We’re looking forward to being able to offer more services to our customers like business apparel decoration (logos, names, monogramming), and sticker printing! We’ve offered these services for a little bit now, but we now have a better framework for advertising these services and offering more self-help in the ordering process.
