Sew your patch on for secure attachment. All TundraGeek Creations patches listed as sew-on have adhesive backing. The adhesive is only a temporary positioning aid while you sew, never the sole attachment method.

What sew-on backing means

“Sew-on” does not mean the patch has no adhesive. The adhesive helps hold your patch in position before stitching. Always sew it down for secure attachment, even when the backing is described as iron-on.

Sewing your patch

  1. Choose a spot and check that you can reach the back of the fabric without stitching a pocket or lining closed.
  2. Position the patch. You can use pins or temporary basting stitches instead of activating the adhesive.
  3. Using a needle and suitable thread, stitch around the full edge, catching both the patch border and the fabric beneath. A whip stitch is one option.
  4. Secure the thread ends on the inside. Check the entire edge for loose areas and add stitches where needed.

Before using an iron or heat press

Adhesive is a temporary fixture method, not a permanent iron-on attachment. The adhesive manufacturer specifies a temperature of 260°F but does not specify a pressing time. This guide therefore does not recommend a pressing duration or pressure.

Check your garment's care label before applying heat: the adhesive manufacturer's temperature does not establish that your garment can tolerate it. If heat compatibility or application instructions are uncertain, contact the shop, or skip the heat and pin or baste the patch in place instead. Always finish by sewing it down.

Washing and drying

Follow the garment's care label. If your patch did not come with washing or drying instructions, contact the shop for guidance for that specific patch before machine washing, tumble drying, or dry cleaning. Do not rely on adhesive to keep it attached through washing.

Check the stitching before and after cleaning. If an edge comes loose, repair the stitches rather than relying on more heat or adhesive.

When to contact the shop

Contact TundraGeek Creations if you need heat or cleaning instructions, plan to attach a patch to a delicate or coated material, or notice damage, loose embroidery, or an attachment problem. Include the patch name or order number and a photo when helpful.
